Utah Cyberinfrastructure

Director Thomas Hauser is founding leader of the Utah Cyberinfrastructure, a consortium of Utah institutions strategically planning and expanding the development of cyberinfrastructure resources in Utah. In addition to USU, members include University of Utah, Southern Utah University, Weber State University, Brigham Young University.

HPC Utah with USDA CSREES funding

PI Hauser and Co PI Jiming Jin, Assistant Professor of Watershed Sciences, Plant, Soils and Climate in the USU College of Natural Resources, continue to collaborate on climate modeling and simulation of soil and stream transport. The researchers with their students utilize HPC techniques to enhance their research and expand the education of research in agricultural applications.

HPC Visualization Lab

HPC@USU has invested in 6 networked visualization screens that can simultaneous project 6 different visualization models at the same time. The lab also offers smart board technology, and is available for distance ed applications and other collaborative enterprises.

HPC Infrastructure Research

In order to expand research opportunities and offer all USU researchers integrated, accessible, and secure data storage options, Director Thomas Hauser and Lead System Administrator Nate Benson are exploring cloud computing opportunities for USU. Long interested in data mining and research data retrieval models, Hauser and Benson are looking for enhanced efficiency, secure data management, ease of data retrieval, and expanded research opportunities. Virtualization of internal resources that merge with public cloud options may be the future of research computing at USU.
